09/29/2012 Donation for Hurricane Sandy/Earthquake in Guatemala.

Curacao called on the community to participate in the fundraiser campaign to benefit the victims of Hurricane “Sandy” and the victims of the Guatemalan Earthquake.


All the funds were collected in each Curacao’s store. Thanks to our customer’s respond that got united in solidarity to our campaign to aid these communities powerfully affected, we were able to raise in the month of November the total amount of $17,294.28, which they were collected for the victims of Hurricane “Sandy” $8,686.39 and for the victims of the Guatemalan Earthquake $8,607.89. All the collected funds were presented in the month of December 2012 to the American Red Cross, who will deliver the funds thru the right channel to assist the victims that urgently need the aid. We are thankful with the public for the good will to respond to this important campaign.

Padres Contra El Cáncer (Padres)® y Curacao se asocian...



PADRES Contra El Cáncer and Curacao have partnered to provide HOPE to families in need. Through PADRES’ Harvest for HOPE program, an initiative to provide the families of PADRES with a much needed Thanksgiving meal, PADRES and Curacao will be able to provide a memorable Thanksgiving for several families this holiday season.

Curacao, one of the most trusted names in Latino retail sales in Southern California and is committed to giving back to the community. Curacao has donated one-hundred turkeys to PADRES Contra El Cáncer’s Harvest for HOPE Program and has also donated one of their locations to serve as a distribution center. PADRES Contra El Cáncer, a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for children with cancer and their families, is expecting one-hundred families that are involved with the organization to attend event. Families will be provided with the much needed items to prepare a Thanksgiving meal.

About the Author

From Undocumented Immigrant to Award-Winning Author, Reyna Grande's other critically-acclaimed books include Across a Hundred Mountains (Atria 2006), which received a 2007 American Book Award and the 2006 El Premio Aztlán Literary Award. Her second novel, Dancing with Butterflies (Washington Square Press 2009) was the recipient of a 2010 International Latino Book Awards. Both novels have been published internationally and read widely in schools across the country and have been very popular with book clubs.

Born in Mexico, Reyna was two years old when her father left for the U.S. to find work. Her mother followed her father north two years later, leaving Reyna and her siblings behind in Mexico. Curacao continues supporting our Hispanic community by giving FREE TURKEYS for many homes (from Nov. 16-19th).

From this Tuesday, November 16th and until the 19th of November, from 10Am to closing time a raffle will take place each hour in all their stores, "you do not need to buy to participate for the raffle, we do not want homes missing a turkey at the Thanksgiving dinner at Hispanic homes around our stores," said Jerry Azarkman cofounder of Curacao stores.

"The turkeys will be delivered to the winners the same day so they can take them home," said Juan Ferran, vice-president of Operations of Curacao. "With this action we want to thank our customers and their families for the great support they have given us this year."

LOS ANGELES – Kathy L. and Walter B. Rose, have been selected as the recipients of the "Outstanding Philanthropist" Award by the Association of Fundraising Professionals for National Philanthropy Day 2008, according to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles President and CEO Richard D. Cordova.
Mrs. Rose, whose family has supported Childrens Hospital Los Angeles for four generations, was elected as a member of the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Board of Trustees in 2007. Mr. Rose was a member of the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Board of Trustees for more than 17 years (1989-2006) and is a former chairman of the board who remains an honorary member of the board. The "Outstanding Philanthropist" Award is presented to the individual, or individuals, who has, or have, improved the quality of life in the community by demonstrating exceptional civic responsibility through financial support, innovation and ethical leadership to one or more charitable organizations serving the community.
"Providing unsurpassed leadership, vision and compassion, Kathy and Walt Rose have been a fundamental force in the philanthropic community in Los Angeles for decades, exemplified by their years of volunteerism and generosity," said Mr. Cordova. "Each passionately dedicated to multiple charitable and service organizations, they reflect an uncommon commitment to service and philanthropy that is apparent in all aspects of their personal, professional and civic lives."
Philanthropy has been part of Mrs. Rose's life since she was six years old, when an elderly neighbor surprised her and her friend with a $100 gift, and the pair donated the money to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, where Kathy later became a volunteer during her teen years.
In 1984, she created the orientation and training program for the 69,000 volunteers who staffed the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and a decade later she provided the training for 40,000 workers in nine cities during the 1994 World Cup Soccer tournament.
In addition to her other extensive volunteer commitments, she started an educational software company for school-aged children with her son, Tom. She has served, or serves, in leadership capacities with Banning Residence Museum and Kidspace Children's Museum, and she is a member of two Childrens Hospital Los Angeles support groups – Pasadena Guild and Las Madrinas, since 1993.

Mrs. Rose co-chairs the newly established Children's Fund at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, which raises essential annual operating dollars for the hospital. Mr. Rose has enjoyed more than four decades of civic responsibility through participation in many charitable organizations. He has held leadership positions in a number of prestigious charitable organizations, including the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, House Ear Institute, Claremont Graduate University and the Stanford Business School Alumni Association, where he served as president. He is currently working with the Mayor of Pasadena on a taskforce to support local public schools.

Mr. Rose was responsible for the successful merger of the [Childrens Hospital Los Angeles] Board of Directors and the Board of Regents. In addition to his role as co-chair of the Board of Trustees for seven years, he was a member of the Development Advisory Campaign Cabinet, and, until his retirement, chaired the Executive Committee, the Government Relations Advisory Committee, the New Hospital Campaign Committee and the Technology Advisory Committee. He is one of only seven lifetime Honorary Members of the Board of Trustees.
Mr. and Mrs. Rose, together with Trustee Marion Anderson and her husband, John, were co-chairs of Living Proof: The Campaign for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, a $500 million campaign for new facilities, as well as endowment, program and annual support. Under their joint leadership, Childrens Hospital raised more than $556 million between January 2000 and April 2006, believed to be unprecedented among freestanding children's hospitals in the country.

Mr. and Mrs. Rose were inaugural co-chairs of the hospital's First Families Legacy Program, a 2003 initiative promoting support for the New Hospital Building, while building a legacy of support from future generations. They are active lifetime members of the Children's Circle of Care, the most prestigious giving society at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. The "Outstanding Corporation" Award is given to a corporation that exhibits a philanthropic philosophy that includes helping provide financial assistance and volunteer assistance to meet community needs. The nature and impact of the assistance is evaluated as well as the contribution in relation to the size of the corporation.

Fundacion Curacao Para Los Niños was established in 2002 by Curacao USA, a growing chain of larger format department stores with a Hispanic focus. Curacao takes an active yet quiet role in numerous philanthropic endeavors, including disaster relief after the 1994 Los Angeles earthquake, and an annual Children's Fair to encourage children to stay in school and stay involved in extra curricular activities.

The relationship with Childrens Hospital Los Angeles began after the son of an employee was successfully treated for a sever allergy reaction. Fundacion Curacao designed programs to raise funds through wristband sales at each of the Curacao stores to support construction of the New Hospital Building and a Childrens Hospital/Curacao co-branded Mother's Day event. In addition, Curacao raises awareness about the hospital's mission in the Hispanic community by collaborating with its media partners to tell others what makes Childrens Hospital such a special place to the employees at Curacao.

SECOND ANNUAL CHILDRENS HOSPITAL FUNDRAISER KICKS OFF Curacao Offers Commemorative Wristband in Exchange for a Donation.

LOS ANGELES, April 2, 2008 –Thanks to a successful 2007, Curacao officially launched through its Foundation, the fundraising campaign for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles to help those children who need medical treatment and whose families cannot afford to pay for the high costs.

An account has been established in each of the nine stores throughout the Los Angeles Metro area, in which nearly 3,000 associates as well as our customers can make a minimum donation of $3.00. In exchange, they will receive a commemorative wristband to show support for this great cause. This year the goal is to raise $100,000. The store that fundraises the most money will choose five associates to attend an exclusive dinner with the Curacao owners.

A part of the funds raised will go to the construction of the new Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, which will open its doors in 2010. The new high-tech building will have special rooms for family members to spend the night, it will have a garden with a playground that will be universally accessible to able and disabled children alike, lighting will be child-friendly, the ceiling will be decorated with cheerful images and soft colors and there will be a convenience store open 24 hours a day inside the hospital.

The fundraiser will culminate with an event sponsored by Curacao at Childrens Hospital in honor of Mother's Day, at which time the mothers of sick children will receive a special recognition for their remarkable support and for remaining at their children's side during the most difficult moments of their illness. This campaign is exemplary of the commitment Curacao has, and has had with the community for over 25 years.



In the middle of smiles and applause, Curacao officially presented a donation check for the amount of $10, 904.53 to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. The funds were raised thanks to the efforts of thousands of Curacao associates from all its stores. At the event, Jerry Azarkman, Vice President of La Curacao presented the check to hospital executives, who as a token of appreciation gave Curacao a Thank You plaque on behalf of the children with their own thoughts, signatures and drawings. The event concluded with a tour of the Oncology and Hematology departments as well as a visit to the NICCU.

"We are very thankful with the efforts Curacao has made to support our children and their families," said Martha Andujo-Garske, Associate Director of Corporate Relations. "These funds will help keep our hospital mission which is to provide the best quality medical care to our diverse community."

This campaign is a clear example of Curacao's 25-year commitment to the community. "We are very proud to count on associates who share our dream of helping the children of the Latino community," said Jerry Azarkman, Vice President of the company.

The funds will be used to help find a cure or medical treatment that will improve the lives of children and adolescents who suffer from Cancer and other ailments.



An inter league soccer competition for inner city youth will take place on Saturday, July 28th at 8000 Park Lane in the city of Bell Gardens. Curacao has partnered with SCYSO (Southern California Youth Soccer Organization) to offer a showcase tournament for youth categories under 14 and under 16 where athletics, education and professional aspirations will be featured.

In addition, there will be a showcase tournament. Curacao All Star versus Chivas USA under 19. The soccer match will be the culmination of the eight (8) week competition featuring finalists from various cities like Pomona, Ontario, Santa Ana, Bell Gardens, South Gate, Compton, Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Norwalk and Montebello among others, who will play against each other. Surrounding the all-star game, a soccer celebration village will feature a soccer clinic, educational information, interactive activities, celebrity player autograph booth, interaction with athletics scouts, and fun giveaways.

"This is a fantastic way to inform children of the higher level opportunities available to them through soccer and higher education and we are pleased to bring these resources to the community through this all star showcase event" said Elsa Baruch, the Community Relations Manager of Curacao. The all-star team will also take part in Curacao hosted events such as career day and breakfast with the executives as well as store level recognition.

The event will also feature two media-games. La Opinion versus Las Aguilas 1330 AM and Telemundo versus La Raza radio, followed by an awards closing ceremony.



Like a good habit, Curacao once more shows that it cares about the Latino community this time, through their program "La Alegría de Leer", (The Joy of Reading). Every Thursday inside Curacao stores, children can listen to their favorite stories, participate in arts & crafts and other activities in a joyful and educational atmosphere.

Los Angeles, CA – With the goal to promote a higher education among the Latino youth, Curacao is holding a breakfast for those teams who participated in the Inter-league Cup, which took place last Saturday at the Bell Gardens Ford Complex. This event will be held on Wednesday, August 8th from 10am to 12pm at 1605 W. Olympic Blvd., Suite 600 Los Angeles, 90015.

The young athletes will have the opportunity to meet various company executives, get an office tour and take part in a breakfast that will feature a motivational speaker and where they will receive a certificate of participation.

Phoenix, AZ – With the objective of expanding into other areas of the country and penetrate the heart of the Hispanic market, Curacao will open its first store in Phoenix, Arizona in fall of 2007.

The new store located at Desert Sky Mall, (7815 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ) in West Phoenix will have 165,000 square feet of sales floor including a warehouse on the second floor. In addition, there will be a child-care area so that parents can take their time making purchases. 9/17/07 Curacao & USC CREATE THE "ACADEMIC...


The biggest Hispanic retailer in the country and the Mexican American Alumni Association give scholarships to Latino students.

Los Angeles, CA – Seeing the need for Latino students to graduate from college, Curacao and the USC Mexican American Alumni Association (MAAA) will launch a campaign to present scholarships to Latino students who are accepted to USC. The launch will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2007 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the USC Davidson Conference Center. Curacao executives, USC administrators and representatives from participating high schools will be in attendance as well as Henry Cisneros, Citiview chairman and USC MAAA council chairmain.

"Curacao's partnership with the USC Mexican American Alumni Association is an exemplary collaboration between the private sector, a leading higher learning institution and local area high schools for the benefit of our Latino students, "said Henry Cisneros, Citiview chairmain. "It is a direct challenge to all business alike to invest in the academic achievement of the youth who live in the cities where they do business."

The primary purpose of the Academic Achievement Program is to create awareness among Latino youth on how to best prepare for the college admissions process, provide high school counselors with additional resources and materials, as well as informational workshops for the parents. Students who keep good grades and are admitted to USC will receive a scholarship of $12,000 over four years.

"We are prepared to go into the high schools and inform students of the necessary steps for college admittance. We will organize fun and motivational assemblies so that college education is imprinted in their minds," said Ruth Garcia, marketing and advertising manager for Curacao.
